Belfast Grand Central Station project Shortlisted for Construction News Award

Translink and GRAHAM Construction have made the shortlist for the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Excellence (Project) Award at the 2023 Construction News Awards, recognising their work on the Belfast Grand Central Station enabling works.

The Construction News Awards are highly regarded throughout the industry and widely recognised as a standard of excellence with industry peers.

This year marks the 27th year of Construction News and looks to celebrate the People, Pride and Passion of the industry. On being shortlisted for the award David Lowry, Head of Construction Safety, Health and Environment for Translink commented,

“We are delighted with the news that the Enabling Works project has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award for Health, Safety and Wellbeing performance. This is worthy recognition for everyone involved in this project, which was completed without any reportable accident or incidents. This outstanding record is a testament to the collaborative approach between Translink, as the Client, and Graham Construction as the Principal Contractor,  from collective planning around risk elimination and reduction to site management arrangements and engagement with the workforce.”

The success of Health, Safety and Wellbeing on the project can be credited to the engagement with, and buy in from the workforce, around the culture of safety performance,

“Full credit goes to those who worked day in and day out delivering the Enabling Works in an exemplary manner, ensuring everyone involved in the project got Safe Home, Every Day. We look forward to the opportunity to outline the impact of the project to the judging panel and to the awards event itself”  David concluded.

The delivery of the Enabling Works has led to lessons and improvements around safety processes and performance for Translink, which have been taken forward into other construction and rail maintenance activities, including the development of Belfast Grand Central Station itself.

One more stage of judging will take place in May with the winners being announced at the Construction News Awards ceremony in London in July.
