CCS audit returns full marks for Farrans Sacyr at Belfast Grand Central Station

Belfast Grand Central Station Main Works Contractors, Farrans Sacyr JV, has scored full marks following a Considerate Constructors Scheme monitoring visit at the project site.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) helps improve the image of construction, by supporting and driving positive change in the industry through its Code of Considerate Practice and independent monitoring of sites.

The CCS Monitors assess and score how well a site is doing under the three main areas of the Code: respecting the community, caring for the environment and valuing their workforce.

The report noted that this was “an impressive score, evidenced though the significant investment in the community, environment and workforce. A staggering 2430 students have been engaged in the project through site visits, school talks, careers talks, work experience and placement opportunities. Local labour, subcontractor and suppliers have been prioritised and promoted. Local charities continue to be supported with over £19,000 raised to date and ongoing events taking place. Environmental procedures and systems are in place to ensure the site adheres to environmental objectives and environmental management systems.

“An environmental consultant visit took place to review and improve biodiversity on site, with off-cut planters created and planted up outside the main offices. Carbon reduction / Net Zero commitment is in place and continues to be developed and communicated. Carbon literacy training has been developed in-house and is being rolled out to the workforce. Investment in the workforce is evident through the training provided, health and wellbeing focus and ample welfare facilities. There has been a focus on Women in Construction with numerous female students visiting the site and getting to experience the various job opportunities in construction.”

Farrans Sacyr JV commenced work on NI Executive Flagship Belfast Grand Central Station project in February 2022, delivering the main works element of the build.
