Youth footballers ‘Play It Safe’ at summer football cup

Local youth football teams recently participated in a Summer Football Cup organised by Sandy Row FC and supported by Translink & Babcock.

Under 16 and Under 17 teams competed at Wedderburn Playing Fields in South Belfast, with the event aiming to inform young people about staying safe on and around public transport this summer. It was also part of the new Belfast Grand Central Station & Weavers Cross community engagement programme.

Players took part in Translink’s ‘Play It Safe’ Challenge showcasing their keepy-up skills and enjoying some friendly competition.

Translink is encouraging everyone to stay safe this summer on public transport. The ‘Play it Safe’ campaign uses a sporting theme to highlight important issues like treating everyone with respect, staying alert, avoiding risks, anti-social behaviour consequences and following safety advice so that everyone can enjoy safe and comfortable journeys.

Translink is also emphasising the real dangers of trespassing on tracks or using the railway as a shortcut. Anyone using railway crossings is reminded to stay vigilant at all times and pay attention to warning lights and signs. Parents and guardians are urged to keep aware of their children’s whereabouts to help ensure they’re not engaging in any unsafe behaviour.
