The Belfast Transport Hub with its Enabling Works contractor, GRAHAM Construction teamed up to offer machinery, labour and time to support the effort to keep South Belfast clean and tidy.
The request for support was submitted by local social enterprise, Treeco, who have been hugely active in the local community clearing residential areas, school premises and green spaces throughout the lockdown period – when local recycling units were closed.
The donation and offer of help supported Treeco clear the debris, disused and unwanted items that had begun gathering in the yard immediately in front of the social enterprise premises on the Donegall Road.
Graham Bowden, on behalf of Treeco said,
“We are extremely grateful to the Belfast Transport Hub and GRAHAM Construction for their generosity and swift response in helping us with the heavy lifting.
“The waste material from all the clean-up activity in recent months was beginning to accumulate in the front yard. It was creating a safety hazard and a bringing a bad look to the day-to-day operations and function of Treeco.
“The Belfast Transport Hub and GRAHAM responded within a day and immediately helped restore safe working practise and a functional working space to the business. Overall their efforts contributed to keeping South Belfast clean and tidy.
“It’s probably a small gesture from the Transport Hub and GRAHAM, but it has had a hugely positive impact on Treeco and the ongoing service we offer to the local community”.
Brendan Gallagher, Belfast Transport Hub Community Engagement Manager said,
“We have worked positively with Treeco for a number of years now and we know the vital role Graham and his team play in the local community. We have been happy to support Treeco on a range of initiatives – we know our efforts and the benefits they bring can be shared by the wider community.
“At Translink, we know that by working together with our staff, partners, contractors and stakeholders we are making a positive difference to the communities we serve. We place a strong emphasis on supporting vibrant, healthy, safe and clean communities.
“The Belfast Transport Hub is committed to positively engaging with all local communities and their residents as we move through the construction and engineering phases of this important project. We are committed to ensuring local communities will share in the social, economic and environmental benefits that the project, and its construction, will generate”.
