Full Marks for GRAHAM from the Considerate Constructors Scheme

GRAHAM recently achieved perfect marks from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for their work on the Belfast Grand Central Station Busway Bridge and Ramps project. The scheme  is the national initiative set up by the construction industry to improve its image. Construction sites and companies that register with the Scheme are monitored against a Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.

During each visit from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), a Monitor observes how sites are being run in relation to the Code and provides a score against the three sections of the Code. We’re pleased to share that GRAHAM and the Busway Bridge and Ramps project at Belfast Grand Central Station have received exceptional scores in the latest report from the CCS. An excellent achievement with perfect marks of 15/15 in the categories of ‘Respect the Community,’ ‘Care for the Environment,’ and ‘Value their Workforce’!

In the category of ‘Respect the Community,’ the monitor commended the project’s site entrance and hoarding, which were deemed to be of an “exceptionally high standard.” Additionally, the project team’s engagement with local schools, colleges, and charities was recognised as going above and beyond, demonstrating their dedication to serving and supporting the community. The project also made strides in providing employment opportunities, including outreach initiatives targeting disadvantaged groups.

The project’s commitment to the environment also earned them full marks in the ‘Care for the Environment’ category. The monitor noted the implementation of site activities that prioritize environmental issues, including the on-site crushing of demolished materials for reuse as piling mat materials. This approach minimises waste and demonstrates a commitment to sustainable practices. Furthermore, the project team engaged in biodiversity workshops with a local nursery school, promoting environmental education and awareness. The site also implemented initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, showcasing a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

In the category of ‘Value their Workforce,’ the project received high praise for its dedication to the well-being and professional development of its workers. The monitor highlighted the site’s peer role models, who actively engaged with career events, conducted school visits, and delivered site talks to inspire and guide aspiring professionals. The project team also facilitated research placements to identify areas for improvement and enhance the overall well-being of all operatives. Additionally, the monitor commended the project’s well-managed training programs, as well as the provision of top-notch compound and welfare facilities.

Conor McLornan, Translink’s Project Manager for Belfast Grand Central Station commented,

“We are delighted for GRAHAM and the Busway Bridge site team on receipt of this excellent CCS score. As this construction contract draws to a close later this summer, this score is reflective of the commitments and outputs by GRHAHAM in terms of ‘Respect the Community,’ ‘Care for the Environment,’ and ‘Value their Workforce’ throughout the project. We are encouraged again that GRAHAM’s performance in these areas are aligned with some of Translink’s key objectives in making Translink the first choice for travel. Well done Team!”

Well done and congratulations to all involved!
